GCCL – Newsletter to Clubs –September 2018
This newsletter records the key points from the County League Committee Meeting on September 24.
The main business was preparations for the AGM and the Dinner.
AGM, and proposed rule changes
The AGM will be held at 7:30pm on Tuesday October 23 at Hatherley & Reddings CC. Dan Clarke will be distributing the Calling Notice and agenda in the next few days.
The list of the proposed rule changes for the 2019 season to be voted on at the AGM in October is attached below.
Clubs are requested that attendees are fully briefed and mandated, and are reminded that trophies must be returned at the AGM.
The Presentation Dinner will be held on November 9 (7pm for 7:30pm) at Cheltenham Civil Service CC. Emily and Dan Midwinter are organising the event.
The arrangements will be similar to the past two years. The menu is Braised Lamb Shank served with potatoes and seasonal vegetables, followed by Chocolate Fudge Cake served with Double Cream. The vegetarian option will be Goats Cheese & Red Onion Tartlet. The price will be £16.25. It is hoped that, once again, a Gloucestershire CCC player will be able to attend to take part in a short Q and A and to present the trophies.
Bookings to Dan Midwinter (email@example.com), indicating whether the vegetarian option is required, by Sunday October 21 please.
As in previous years, all teams will be invoiced for two tickets.
GCCL T20 Blast
Thank you very much to all the clubs that have replied to the communications regarding next summer’s Sunday T20 Blast competition. The positive responses have been very encouraging with over 20 clubs expressing a firm or possible intention of entering. Thanks also to the few clubs that have politely said it is not for them. There are, however, about 20 clubs that have not replied - If this is yours, please contact Ian Robson at firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible.
Further details of the competition will be given at the AGM.
The closing date for confirmed entries will be Friday 9th November (a couple of weeks after the AGM).
Umpiring and Officials Courses
As in previous years, there will be “Introduction to Umpiring” courses in three locations across the county as well as Club Umpire and Level 1 courses. Please start to identify attendees and do tell potential delegates that all the courses are now “information based” and thus do not have a formal exam. Two flyers from GACUS that contain the details are attached.
The details for the stage 1 and 2 courses will be on the ACO website shortly, as those for Scoring courses.
If any club wishes to hold an “in-house” Introductory course for its members, please contact Peter Sawyer at GACUS.
Stop Press - Five clubs have booked “in-house” Introductory courses:
Thursday 28th February at Hatherley & Reddings
Thursday 7th March at Woodmancote
Tuesday 12th March at Corse & Staunton
Wednesday 27th March at Cheltenham Civil Service
Monday 15th April at Langford
It cannot be stressed strongly enough how many disciplinary incidents arise from poor or inappropriate umpiring by club and player umpires. In addition to those who attend to meet the League’s annual requirement, please encourage as many players as possible to attend a course.
Umpiring Focus Group
During the past close season, an Umpiring Focus Group consisting of Paul Goring (Woodmancote CC), Jim Hyland (GCCL) and Peter Sawyer (GACUS) met and came up with a number of proposals including the new Player/Club Umpiring cards. The group plans to meet again during the next close season and would welcome additional representatives from clubs.
Anyone interested in being involved, please contact Jim. The next meeting is arranged for Monday 29th October 2018 - 7.30pm @ Cheltenham CC
Work on producing the fixtures will commence shortly and clubs are requested to let Fixture Secretary Eddie Baker know as soon as possible those dates when they are unable to host a home fixture.
Feedback from GACUS
The feedback on GCCL matches at a recent GACUS seminar was very positive, with particular mention of the hospitality provided to umpires, and the behaviour of the players, at Division 2 matches.
