GCCL – Newsletter to Clubs – May 2017

This newsletter records the key points from the County League Committee meeting on May 22.

An excellent start to the season with only one cancellation and one abandonment due to the weather, and very few fines for late results, scorecards and facilities/fair play reports.  Thank you very much to all the clubs for their co-operation, and to those that reduced overs on May 20 to ensure a completed match.

The new GCCL-only Honours Boards have attracted excellent feedback.  A reminder that they are updated every Tuesday evening.

Captains’ Briefing

The Committee Meeting reviewed the papers shared via the post-AGM newsletter.  The outcome was:

  • A number of the suggestions raised are either standard League practice or in the League rules or have previously been put to and voted down by the AGM.

Examples are that the sponsor’s support was secured on the basis of funding Officials Courses, the Fair Play awards presented at the annual dinner, the option for mutual agreement of start times, etc.

  • There were a number of suggestions of stiffer sanctions for poor behaviour but, from the committee’s perspective, the issue is not the sanctions but that incidents do not seem to be reported
  • As in 2016, a rules sub-committee will be established to decide the changes to be put to the AGM and it will work through the outputs from the workshop.  One likely outcome is to once again propose non-playing scorers in Divisions 1 and 2

Key dates for 2017

The date for the AGM has been changed.  It will now be held on Tuesday October 24 at Hatherley & Reddings CC.

The Dinner will on Friday November 17 at Cheltenham Civil Service CC.

Play-cricket Scorecards, etc.

  • When completing the “Highlights” (i.e. notable performances), please include the name of the player’s club to ensure that the information makes its way to the press in a comprehensible form.  Can we also prevail on clubs to provide highlights (even if they lose) so that players receive the recognition that they deserve
  • To clarify the situation with regard to Umpires Reports:
  • For matches with appointed officials, as in previous years, please use the GACUS report
  • For all other matches, please use the new play-cricket Umpires Report.  When completing this, please be realistic – Even professional officials make mistakes!  The new report is to enable the Committee to pick up trends

The No Ball rule for “Height”

Some confusion has been reported and so this is provide clarification:

  • A no ball should be called when it is:

  • Above waist height for a fast bowler
  • Above shoulder height for a slow bowler

  • The responsibility for calling “No ball” is with the bowling end umpire, who make seek advice from his colleague at square leg

Bank House Stumps

There is a limited supply of spare stumps to replace any that are broken.  Please contact Brian Hudson to make an order and they will be available for collection at the SGM/Captains’ Briefing.
